Sharjah 24: The House of Poetry, part of the Sharjah Department of Culture, has released issue number 82 of its monthly magazine, “Al Qawafi,” for June. Now in its eighth year, the magazine specialises in classical Arabic poetry and its criticism, celebrating topics related to its rhetoric, language, and heritage. It also celebrates poets from various eras.

Highlight of main articles

The editorial, titled “Tales and Dialogues of the Arabic Poem,” opens the issue and states: Every poem has an occasion and a purpose. Since ancient times, Arabic poetry has been replete with historical, cultural, and social events that have conveyed to us a picture of life in different eras. In this context, narrative has formed an additional dimension to the text and an indispensable necessity for poets.

In this issue of "Al Qawafi" (Rhymes), the "Glimpse" section presents an article on narrative in classical poetry, from structure to form, written by Dr Muhammad Al-Khouli.

In the "Horizons" section, poet Dr Omar Al-Raji writes on "Emotional Dialogue in Arabic Poetry."

The issue also includes an interview in the "Beginning of the Line" section with Jordanian poet Muhammad Khudair, conducted by poet and media personality Omar Abu Al-Haija.

Media personality Ahmed Humaidan surveyed a group of poets and critics on the topic of "Innovative Structures and Imagery in Poetry."

In the "Cities of Poetry" section, poet and media personality Abdul Aziz Al-Hamami writes about the Tunisian city of Nabeul.

Poet Dr Muhammad Al-Hawrani reviewed the biography of the poet Adi ibn al-Riqa'.

Poet Dr Rabih Fallah wrote on the topic of "Nature Poetry" in the "Connotations" section.

Selection of poems

The issue celebrated the publication of a diverse selection of poems, distinguished by their beauty of form and meaning, across various themes and subjects. The issue concluded with a poetry essay by the managing editor, the poet Mohammed Abdullah Al-Buraiki, entitled "Stories are the Origin of Poetry," in which he said: "Stories in poetry are the origin of beginnings, for poetry is not words spoken without an idea that gives thought its chance to delve into what is inside it of words, and it is not without a goal or meanings, and it is not letters arranged on lines within a form, rhyme, and song; nor is it displaying the fabric of phrases without embroidering them with details; for poetry is linked to feelings, and the feeling needs a tongue to express what is behind those feelings, of joy or fatigue; to express what is behind them of desire, to express what is behind them of flame, which is based on arranging them according to a form, and according to metrical feet that play the pulse of visions and desires, and the first entrance to it is the thresholds."
