Sharjah 24: Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Seafood Souq, announced the launch of a groundbreaking project for the digital tracking of local fisheries in the Emirate of Sharjah. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Sharjah Asset Management, the investment arm of the Sharjah government.

Reinforcing transparency and sustainability

In statements to Sharjah24, Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi highlighted that the project marks a qualitative leap— the first of its kind in the region—designed to enhance transparency and sustainability in the fisheries sector. It will use the country’s first digital system to document and trace each local catch through a QR code, giving consumers and retailers direct access to information about the catch and its origin.

Supporting local fishermen and the blue economy

The system is expected to boost confidence in national seafood products and support Emirati fishermen. Its launch represents a major step in advancing the fisheries sector in Sharjah and aligns with national blue economy and sustainability initiatives.

Advancing sustainable development goals

The project embodies a strategic move toward building an integrated digital system that elevates the quality of local products while supporting the UAE’s broader aspirations for sustainable development.
