Munira Al Marzouqi, the Visitor Services Supervisor, shared that the exhibition begins by explaining the fascinating process of how pearls start their life. A tiny object finds its way inside an oyster, and to protect itself, the oyster coats this object with a shiny layer called nacre.
The second part of the exhibition explores the traditional art of pearl diving. Visitors can learn about the tools beautiful pearl divers use and the risks they face while exploring underwater.
Finally, the exhibition introduces the pearl trade and the important role of pearl merchants, known as tawash. These merchants have been significant in shaping both the local economy and international markets. Al Marzouqi emphasized that the exhibition allows visitors, including families and children, to step into the world of a pearl merchant. They can even try on beautiful pearl jewelry, making the experience both educational and fun.
