Sharjah24: The Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) organised a discussion session titled “Methods of Preserving and Documenting Heritage Information,” presented by Professor Wafa Dagestani, a faculty member at the Institute’s Academic Administration, and moderated by Mohammed Hamdan. The event, held at the “Hayyakum Aqrabou Lil Turathiyat” Foundation, was attended by a number of researchers and cultural heritage enthusiasts.

Held in Khorfakkan, the session is part of the Institute’s ongoing initiatives to raise community awareness about the importance of heritage documentation as a cornerstone for preserving cultural legacy and safeguarding national memory.

Using modern technologies in archiving and dissemination

The session saw active engagement from participants, as it covered key stages of the documentation process — from field data collection and analysis to methods of preservation and organisation — culminating in the use of modern technologies for archiving and publishing information.

It also discussed the link between academic education and scientific research in developing preservation methods, as well as the essential role of institutions and individuals in protecting heritage and ensuring its sustainability.

Institutional and community cooperation in safeguarding national heritage

The session concluded by emphasising the importance of institutional and community collaboration in protecting national heritage and adopting modern scientific methodologies to ensure accurate documentation and easy access to information. Participants also highlighted the Sharjah Institute for Heritage’s key role in promoting a culture of research and documentation while strengthening values of belonging and pride in Emirati identity.
