The event explored the history of the sea and its role in the lives of ancestors as a source of livelihood, knowledge, and cultural exchange. It was held at the Institute’s branch in Dibba Al Hisn, with participation from a select group of enthusiasts and researchers specialising in traditional maritime professions.
The session, hosted at the Dibba Al Hisn branch and moderated by Hind Al Awani, Branch Director, brought together maritime figures with extensive experience in traditional crafts. Participants discussed the sea’s central role in society, highlighting how it served as a school of life and generosity, as well as the values and customs connected to fishing, seafaring, and trade.
The event featured an exhibition of traditional boats, showcasing models used for fishing and travel, alongside rare historical documents illustrating maritime life in the region. Additionally, the “Leekh” workshop offered hands-on demonstrations of traditional fishing net-making techniques and the tools involved.
