The Sharjah Airport Authority is participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) Was part of its commitment to strengthening global partnerships and showcasing its achievements in infrastructure development and the adoption of advanced technologies that enhance the travel experience and ensure service efficiency for passengers and airline partners.
The exhibition serves as an international platform that brings together experts and decision-makers to explore the future of the aviation and tourism sectors, fostering cooperation and building partnerships that drive growth and sustainability in both industries — two interconnected pillars supporting economies and connecting nations.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, stated:
“Sharjah Airport’s participation under the umbrella of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority reflects the emirate’s efforts to strengthen its global presence and reinforce its position as a destination that blends heritage with a rich modern tourism experience.
The participation also highlights the major expansion project at Sharjah Airport, valued at AED 2.4 billion, which aims to increase capacity to 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027, improving operational efficiency and supporting the growing volume of passenger traffic. The Authority continues to play a vital role in realising this vision through its expertise and capabilities that meet the highest international standards.”
Al Midfa added that Sharjah Airport recorded remarkable growth in passenger and aircraft movements from January to September 2025. The airport welcomed over 5.1 million passengers in the third quarter alone, an increase of 16.7% compared to the same period last year. It handled 30,737 flights, while air cargo rose by 3.9% to 48,073 tonnes. The sea-air cargo segment saw exceptional growth of 32.8%, reaching 4,296 tonnes, underscoring the airport’s expanding role as a key regional hub for air transport and logistics.
Al Midfa emphasised that the Authority views its participation in this global event as an “investment in the future”, reflecting its commitment to meeting travellers’ evolving expectations, strengthening the air transport and tourism ecosystem, and exchanging expertise with international partners and platforms.
