The cooperation aligns with the UAE’s goals to empower people with disabilities (PWDs) socially and in sports, promoting an inclusive and sustainable sporting ecosystem.
Enhancing PWDs’ participation
The MoU focuses on specialised training, tournaments, and expertise exchange to increase participation of people with disabilities, especially those with intellectual and developmental challenges, in maritime sports.
Talal Al Hashmi, National Director of UAE Special Olympics highlighted that expanding maritime sports empowers people with disabilities and reflects national unity, reinforcing the UAE’s leadership in inclusive sports and equal opportunities.
Preparation for 2027 World Summer Games
The MoU includes forming strong national teams, coordinating efforts for the 2027 World Summer Games in Chile, and organising subsequent local, regional, and international competitions, with roles divided between the federation and the club.
Mohammed Abdullah Al Obaidli, Secretary-Genera of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation (SARF) emphasised that the cooperation integrates UAE sports institutions, provides technical support, and builds strong foundations for competitive national teams in sailing and rowing.
Specialised training and workshops
Hamid Hasan Al Shamsi, Chairman of Al Hamriyah Club expressed pride in participating in the collaboration, highlighting plans for training programmes and workshops to prepare qualified personnel and showcase the abilities of people with disabilities.
Enhancing technical capacities
The UAE Special Olympics will lead training and specialised courses to qualify coaches, referees, organisers, and volunteers, strengthening national staff’s technical and administrative capacity to manage events professionally and inclusively.
