PSG’s seven goals were shared among Ecuadorian William Pacho (7), Désiré Doué (41, 45+3), Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (44), Portuguese Nuno Mendes (50), substitute Ousmane Dembélé (66), and Portuguese Vitinha (90). Spanish striker Alex García scored both goals for Leverkusen (38 from a penalty and 54).
Both teams finished the match with ten players after the referee issued a red card to Leverkusen captain Robert Andrich (33), followed four minutes later by the sending-off of Ukrainian defender Illya Zabarnyi for PSG.
PSG made up for disappointing domestic results by drawing 1-1 against Lille and 3-3 against Strasbourg in their last two league matches, which allowed rivals Marseille to take the top spot. In Europe, however, PSG excelled, securing their third consecutive win and topping the group with nine points, ahead of the Italian side Inter Milan and the English club Arsenal on goal difference.
With this victory over Leverkusen, PSG matched their longest winning streak in the Champions League, previously achieved with six consecutive wins between September and December 1994.
