Al Kindi told “Sharjah 24” that the initiative also aims to encourage young people to practise this traditional sport, preserve the traditional wooden boats, and channel youth energies towards beneficial activities. The event’s organisation came in collaboration with the UAE Marine Sports Federation and the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club.
Al Kindi added in remarks to “Sharjah 24,” on the sidelines of the race, that the event witnessed the signing of a comprehensive cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Culture and the UAE Marine Sports Federation.
The agreement aims to preserve maritime heritage and promote its sustainability at the global level through the launch of research and cultural projects and joint training programmes.
He emphasised that this step complements the UAE’s efforts to protect intangible cultural heritage and strengthen its position as a global centre for culture and human heritage.
The agreement also seeks to enhance international partnerships with institutions such as UNESCO and maritime heritage centres in Asia and Europe.
Al Kindi pointed out that the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the UAE Marine Sports Federation, provided strong support for participants and organisers alike, reflecting the official interest in reviving maritime heritage and empowering new generations to embrace it.
