The event featured extensive talks on critical issues affecting individuals with disabilities, ending in a set of proposals and activities targeted at improving their situation and strengthening their inclusion into society.
Al Naqbi stated to “Sharjah 24” that the conference's most important recommendations was the establishment of an academic field in adaptive physical activity (APA), which would grant a bachelor's degree at universities. This initiative would train qualified cadres, both academically and practically, to create and administer sports and physical activities that are adapted to the specific needs of people with disabilities. Such a move, he emphasised, would improve their chances of engaging in appropriate physical and sporting activities.
He emphasised that the introduction of this academic discipline would significantly transform the field of disability care, bridging the gap in specialised expertise, enhancing the quality of services, and enabling individuals with disabilities to exercise their rights in sports and physical activities. It would also improve scientific research in the field and correspond with best global practices, with beneficial consequences for integration policies and rehabilitation programmes.
Furthermore, the conference urged the use of precise data collection approaches and evidence-based procedures, emphasising the need for transparency in presenting results to ensure their effective impact on policymaking.
Finally, Al Naqbi thanked all participants and sponsors, expressing his hope that these ideas will be converted into actual realities that benefit people with disabilities.
