Despite being excluded from Newcastle’s squad since the start of the season, reportedly due to transfer tensions, Isak remains part of Sweden’s plans. His club absence is believed to be linked to pressure tactics as Liverpool pursues the striker.
Isak is set to participate in Sweden’s qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo on September 5 and 9, respectively, under coach Jon Dahl Tomasson’s leadership.
The 26-year-old forward has been training individually after missing Newcastle’s pre-season tours in Singapore and South Korea. Liverpool is said to have tabled a $149 million bid for Isak, which Newcastle rejected, holding out for a record-breaking $190 million deal.
Coach Tomasson emphasised that Isak’s involvement in the qualifiers is crucial, especially with the 2026 World Cup in the US, Mexico, and Canada on the horizon. “It’s important for Isak to be part of this journey,” said Tomasson.
