Sharjah 24 – AFP: Vietnam is preparing to evacuate over 300,000 people from five coastal provinces as Typhoon Kajiki nears landfall on Monday. Temporary shelters are being set up in schools and public buildings.

Flights cancelled, extreme weather expected

Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet have cancelled several domestic flights. Authorities warn of dangerous conditions for transport and coastal operations, with strong winds and heavy rains expected in Ha Tinh and Nghe An provinces.

Kajiki strengthens near China

The storm is moving past southern China with 167 km/h winds and is expected to intensify. China’s Hainan Province has already evacuated 20,000 residents and raised emergency alerts.

Climate, casualties, and economic impact

This marks Vietnam’s fifth tropical storm in 2025, with over 100 casualties and $21 million in damage so far this year. Scientists link the increasing storm severity to climate change.
