The competition is organised by the club as part of its efforts to honour falconry fields that adhere to the highest standards of safety and quality, and to instil the concept of sustainability in the falconry environment.
The competition aligns with modern environmental trends while preserving the rich heritage associated with falconry.
Promoting falconry culture
The launch of the competition is a qualitative step by the club to promote a culture of falconry and celebrate those with expertise and excellence in falconry preparation. This is achieved by adhering to professional standards that ensure the safety and comfort of falcons and encourage the adoption of sound environmental practices in their management.
Conducting field visits
The evaluation committee began its work on Saturday, conducting field visits to participating enclosures that meet the basic conditions. The most important of these is that the enclosure be located within the Emirate of Sharjah and that the number of falcons be at least four. The visits take place in the evening, during which the committee documents and photographs the enclosures and publishes the photos on the club's official accounts. The committee's decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
Technical and technological criteria
The committee's evaluation relies on a set of precise technical and technological criteria, including the location of the enclosure and its distance from external influences; the level of cleanliness and care for the falcons; the number of falcons compared to the area; the number and location of nests; and the number of workers available compared to the number of falcons.
The committee also evaluates the availability of cooling systems and the availability of backup plans in the event of a power outage. It also considers the importance of timing the sun's rays on the enclosures to maximise the desired benefits for the falcons without harming them. Furthermore, the committee ensures that the interior walls are sound and protect the falcons' feathers.
Adopting sustainability standards
On another note, the competition places great importance on sustainability, assessing the extent to which alternative energy is used to the required extent, implementing policies to rationalise water and electricity consumption, adopting health and safety standards, and disposing of waste safely. Criteria also include providing designated areas for food preparation and flexible design of the falconry aviary, allowing for year-round use.
Preserving forefathers and ancestors heritage
Through this competition, the Sharjah Falconers' Club embodies a progressive vision to preserve the sport of our forefathers and ancestors, linking it to contemporary concepts based on quality care and environmental sustainability. This ensures that the falconry aviary remains an ideal environment that ensures the safety of falcons and enhances falconry's status as an enduring cultural heritage.
