Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) has officially launched the 17th edition of its annual "Sharjah Museums Ambassadors" programme. Running from August 11 to 14, 2025, with a concluding celebration on August 18, the programme is hosted at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation. This year, it welcomes 20 Arabic-speaking youth aged 13 to 17 from across the UAE, offering them a unique opportunity to explore the world of museums and cultural engagement.

Empowering the next generation of cultural leaders

The programme is part of the Authority’s commitment to empowering younger generations by enhancing their cultural awareness and developing essential skills in communication, presentation, and museum guidance. Through a hands-on, immersive experience, the participants will learn about the role museums play in public life while cultivating a deeper sense of connection to Sharjah’s cultural identity.

An immersive journey through Sharjah’s museums

The first day began at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation, where participants were introduced to the concept of museums, the significance of museum work, and essential terminology. This foundational knowledge gave them their first look into the responsibilities of a museum guide and how museums serve society.

On the second day, the group will move to the Sharjah Aquarium for a more interactive experience. In this vibrant setting filled with marine life, participants will gain new skills in guiding and public interaction, while learning how to communicate scientific information in accessible ways. They will also explore how to plan engaging and educational field trips, enhancing their ability to connect with diverse audiences.

The third day will take place at the Sharjah Archaeology Museum, where participants will shift their focus to heritage and history. Here, they will delve into the process of interpreting and classifying artifacts, learning how to turn museum collections into compelling narratives that enrich the visitor experience.

Culmination and celebration

The programme will conclude back at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation, where participants will lead guided tours for the public, applying all they’ve learned. Their efforts will be recognised during a special ceremony on August 18, celebrating their creativity, growth, and contribution to cultural education. This final stage not only acknowledges their achievements but also opens new avenues for future volunteering and training within Sharjah’s museum network.

Commitment to cultural development

The selection of participants was based on clear criteria, ensuring they demonstrate a passion for learning, a spirit of teamwork, and strong communication skills. The Sharjah Museums Authority reaffirmed its dedication to investing in young people’s development, preparing them to become future cultural ambassadors and ensuring the continued growth of a society that values the role of museums in shaping knowledge and identity.
