Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, affirmed that student safety remains the authority’s top priority. He noted that its efforts to develop the school transport system align with the objectives of the UAE’s Year of the Family 2026, with children’s safety and families’ peace of mind being key pillars of quality of life.
“We are keen to ensure that our children’s daily journey to school extends the safe environment of their homes through a reliable school transport system that places their safety and their families’ peace of mind at the heart of its priorities,” he said.
The authority’s plan includes intensifying field inspections to verify bus readiness and operators’ compliance with safety requirements, as well as proactive communication with operators before the start of the academic year and enhancing the readiness of inspection teams to ensure effective monitoring and swift action on any observations.
In parallel, the authority continues to provide training and qualification programmes for school bus drivers in cooperation with the Sharjah Driving Institute. It is also participating in joint inspection campaigns with the Sharjah Private Education Authority and relevant entities, as part of an integrated institutional approach aimed at ensuring the highest levels of safety and discipline and providing a safe and sustainable school transport system that supports the smooth running of the educational process and families’ peace of mind in Sharjah.
