Sharjah24: The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has announced the start of development works at the Omran bin Taryam and Ahmed bin Hadeed roundabouts, with partial traffic diversions and closures on Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street to ensure smooth traffic flow during construction.

The project forms part of the authority’s strategic plans to modernise the emirate’s road network, reduce congestion and improve traffic safety by replacing key roundabouts with signal-controlled junctions.

His Excellency Yousef Khamis Mohammed Al Othmani, Chairman of the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, said the works continue the authority’s programme to upgrade Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street, an extension of Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi Street, on which several roundabouts have already been converted to traffic-light-controlled junctions.

The redevelopment of Omran bin Taryam Roundabout, located between Al Ramtha, Al Qoz, Al Sweihat and Al Ramaqiya, includes the reconstruction of the intersection and connecting roads, covering one kilometre of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street and 0.8 kilometres of Abdullah Salem Al Sabah Street. Road capacity will be expanded to three through lanes and additional turning lanes.

At Ahmed bin Hadeed Roundabout, which serves Al Sweihat, Al Ramaqiya, Al Muwafjah and Al Yash, works include reconstructing 1.2 kilometres of Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi Street and 0.8 kilometres of Sabah Salem Al Sabah Street, widening approaches and upgrading utility infrastructure to improve traffic flow and operational efficiency.

The authority said the upgrades are part of wider infrastructure projects to support Sharjah’s economic, investment and tourism growth while enhancing road safety and mobility.
