Sharjah24: Atalanta clinched third place in the Italian Serie A after staging a dramatic 3–2 comeback victory against Genoa in the 37th and penultimate round of the season.
Despite having already secured a Champions League berth for next season, Atalanta showed no signs of slowing down. The win took their tally to 74 points, solidifying their position in the league standings.
Genoa struck first through Andrea Pinamonti in the 37th minute, but Atalanta responded shortly after the break with a goal from Ghanaian midfielder Ismail Sulemana (47’). Pinamonti then restored the hosts' lead in the 58th minute with his second of the match.
However, Atalanta turned the game around with two late goals — Daniel Maldini equalised in the 63rd minute, and Mateo Retegui, a former Genoa player, sealed the win in the 89th minute. Retegui's goal marked his 25th of the season, breaking Filippo Inzaghi’s long-standing club record for most goals in a single campaign, set in 1996–1997.
