Dr. Noura Al-Karbi, Head of Community Relations for Scientific Research at the University of Sharjah, underscored the symposium’s mission to introduce an interactive scientific platform that empowers students and researchers to engage with the latest international practices in protecting threatened species. She highlighted the event’s role in fostering research collaborations with global institutions and in emphasising the critical contribution of academia to environmental sustainability, particularly by connecting theoretical knowledge with real-world expertise and field experience.
Dr. Mahmoud Al-Buraim, Academic Coordinator for Graduate Studies at the University, described the symposium as a vital opportunity to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration across genetics, physiology, environmental science, veterinary medicine, and data science. He noted that integrating these disciplines is essential for developing effective wildlife protection strategies. The symposium showcased examples of research in action, such as the use of satellite tracking to monitor the movements of the Houbara bustard and the application of reproductive research to enhance captive breeding programs. These initiatives, Dr. Al-Buraim explained, demonstrate the positive impact of scientific cooperation on the conservation of endangered species.
