Sharjah24: Croatian star Luka Modrić, midfielder for Real Madrid, has purchased a stake in Swansea City, a club competing in the English Championship, the second tier of English football, according to an announcement by the club.
The Croatia captain, who will turn 40 this September, has spent the last 13 seasons with Real Madrid, where he contributed to six UEFA Champions League titles. Prior to that, he played for Tottenham Hotspur from 2008 to 2012, during the early years of his career.

Swansea did not reveal the amount Modrić invested, but the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner shared his enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute his experience to the Welsh club, which competes outside the Premier League.

Modrić eager to contribute to club’s growth
In comments published on Swansea’s website, Modrić said the club has a strong identity, a large fanbase, and ambitions to compete at a high level.

He added that, given his background in top-tier football, he believes he can offer valuable insight to the club. His aim is to positively support Swansea’s development and help build a promising future.
Meanwhile, Modrić remains focused on Real Madrid’s upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal on Wednesday. Madrid will host the match at home after suffering a 3-0 defeat in the first leg in London.
