Sharjah will wrap up its training session today at the match venue, with coach Cosmin Olăroiu expected to finalise an attacking strategy to overcome the first-leg setback. After losing the first leg 1-0, Sharjah needs to win by at least two goals to advance.
Sharjah reached the semi-finals after finishing at the top of Group C with 13 points. In the Round of 16, they narrowly defeated Jordan’s Al-Hussein Irbid, winning 1-0 in the first leg and losing 1-0 in the return match, before advancing 3-0 on penalties. In the quarter-finals, they faced Shabab Al Ahli, drawing 1-1 in both legs and progressing with a 5-4 victory in the penalty shootout.
Al Taawoun advanced from Group B with 15 points. In the Round of 16, they triumphed over Qatar’s Al Wakrah after two 2-2 draws, securing a spot in the next round with a 4-3 win on penalties. In the quarter-finals, they overcame Iran’s Tractor Sazi, finishing with a 0-0 draw in the first leg and a 2-2 draw in the second, before winning 4-2 on penalties.
In the Eastern Zone semi-final of AFC Champions League 2, Singapore’s Lion City Sailors defeated Sydney FC 2-0 last week. The winner of that matchup will face the victor of the Sharjah vs. Al Taawoun tie in the final.
