The workshop will be held from April 14 to 17, 2025, with the presence of poet Mohammed Al Buraiki, Director of the House, and a number of participants, including students, poets, critics, academics, and interested individuals.
Recitation and Dramatisation of Poems
The first part of the workshop was devoted to "Recitation and Dramatisation of Poems". The lecture was delivered by Egyptian artist Khaled Abdel Salam, Deputy Director of the National Theatre of Egypt. This part addressed the importance of the art of recitation and the dramatisation of poetry, given its profound impact in conveying poetic texts to the recipient.
Mohammed Al Buraiki said that the House of Poetry is keen to hold this workshop periodically and continuously, given its great importance in communicating between the poet and the recipient, in order to keep the recipient of poetry, the intellectual, the aware public, and the poet himself constantly informed about this art, given its high value in the Arab conscience since the beginning of poetry.
Ruler of Sharjah patron of arts
Al Buraiki added that such events and workshops organised by the House of Poetry enjoy the generous patronage and support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, whose insightful vision sought for poetry to be man’s food, drink, and air. He explained that this is especially true since Sharjah is always in effective communication with the poetic environment and applies the highest standards in order to present events that develop critical appreciation for poetry from all its aspects.
Artist Khaled Abdel Salam expressed his gratitude to the Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, whose support for poetry has allowed Sharjah to remain a beacon of poetry. He also thanked the Department of Culture and the House of Poetry, and then began introducing the art of recitation and poetry in an interactive lecture that was well-received and appreciated.
It's worth noting that the workshop is free of charge and is divided into several topics, including prosody, the techniques of poetry, and recitation.
