Sharjah 24 – WAM: The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the armed attacks on the Zamzan and Abu Shouk displacement camps near El Fasher in Darfur. The attacks, which also targeted humanitarian staff and relief organisations, resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries, marking a clear violation of international humanitarian law.

MoFA denounces violence against humanitarian workers

In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) condemned all acts of violence against humanitarian workers. The Ministry stressed that targeting aid staff violates international humanitarian law, which guarantees the protection of medical, rescue, and relief personnel. It emphasized the need to ensure their safety and prevent them from being made targets in times of conflict.

Call for compliance with international law and peace agreements

The UAE called on all involved parties to honor their obligations under international law, the Jeddah Declaration, and the mechanisms outlined by the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) Group. The Ministry urged the immediate protection of civilians and the facilitation of unimpeded humanitarian aid access.

Condemnation of weaponising humanitarian aid

Reaffirming its position, the Ministry stated that lifesaving aid must never be obstructed or politicized. It called on the United Nations to prevent warring factions from using humanitarian assistance for military or political purposes, describing such actions as unacceptable.

UAE reaffirms commitment to peace in Sudan

The Ministry underscored the UAE’s firm commitment to supporting all efforts toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Sudan. It stressed the urgency of an immediate ceasefire and reiterated the UAE’s willingness to collaborate with regional and international partners to restore stability and peace for the Sudanese people.
