Sharjah 24: Senior citizens and people of determination (POD) participated, on Thursday, in sports activities organised by Dibba Al Hisn Sports and Cultural Club at the club's headquarters.
Activities were organised in cooperation with the Department of Social Services in Dibba Al Hisn, and were part of the club's efforts to promote physical activity and spread the culture of sports among various segments of society, reflecting the club's commitment to its mission of making sports a way of life for all members of society.
The event was attended by Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Motawa, Chairman of the Club's Board of Directors; Ali Mohammed bin Ya'rouf Al Naqbi, Secretary General; and Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Dhahouri, Chairman of the Club's Cultural and Community Activities Committee. A distinguished number of senior citizens and people of determination were also present, bringing enthusiasm and vitality to the event.
The sports activities varied between light walking, light ball competitions, balance and simple fitness exercises, as well as mini-sports challenges that promoted movement and activity in a safe and enjoyable manner, engaging participants in a positive competitive spirit.
Promoting mental and physical health
In a statement, Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Al Motawa emphasised that the club places community sports at the forefront of its priorities, noting that the club is always keen to ensure that sports serve as a bridge between generations and a tool for promoting the mental and physical health of all members of society, especially the elderly and people of determination, as they are an integral part of the fabric of our society, and the club’s role is to provide them with the opportunity to practice sports in a supportive and safe environment.
Al Motawa added that Dibba Al Hisn Club is not just a sports club; it is a home for all members of society, working to spread a culture of sports and enhance social cohesion through diverse sporting activities that suit everyone. The club is committed to be a pioneer in organising such events that integrate sports with the humanitarian and societal aspects.
Boosting morale
For his part, Mohammed Ali Al Dhahouri praised the interaction of the elderly and people of determination during the event, saying that smiles that the participants brought to life are the club’s greatest success. Sport is not just movement; it is a vital force that boosts morale and revitalises everyone.
At the conclusion of the event, the club honoured the participants with souvenirs in appreciation of their enthusiasm and positive interaction, emphasising that this event will be part of an ongoing programme targeting all segments of society, to achieve the club's vision of becoming an effective sports and humanitarian centre in the city of Dibba Al Hisn.
