Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Fish Resources Authority (SFRA) has sponsored the first-ever elections for the board of directors of the Kalba Co-operative Society for Fishermen, marking a significant milestone with the introduction of an electronic voting system in Sharjah. The elections, held on Saturday at the Cultural Centre Theatre in Kalba, were part of the society's annual general assembly meeting.

Discussion of administrative and financial reports

During the meeting, the Society's administrative and financial reports for 2024 were discussed, and five new members were elected to the board of directors for the upcoming term. The election was conducted via secret ballot in the presence of key figures, including His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Chairman of the SFRA.

First use of electronic voting system

Salem Mohammed Al Mahrazi, Director of the SFRA, highlighted to "Sharjah 24" that the elections were the first in the emirate to utilise an electronic voting system. This new system will also be implemented for elections across other fishermen's societies in Sharjah.

Strong participation and support for fishermen

Al Mahrazi emphasised the high turnout from fishermen and shareholders, noting the smooth and efficient process facilitated by the organising committee. He underlined the importance of these elections in shaping a board of directors that will continue to support the development of the fishing community and its members.
