ALECGS hosts Ramadan lecture on the language of the Holy Quran

Sharjah24: The Arabic Language Educational Center for the Gulf States in Sharjah (ALECGS) organised a scientific lecture titled "Reflections on the Language of the Holy Quran: Structure and Meaning," delivered by Professor Dr. Abdul Karim Othman, Dean of the College of the Holy Quran at Al Qasimia University.

Opening Remarks and Appreciation

The session, held on Friday evening at the center’s headquarters in University City, Sharjah, was inaugurated by Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of the Arabic Language Educational Center for the Gulf States in Sharjah (ALECGS). In his opening remarks, he welcomed the speaker and attendees, emphasising the importance of such academic discussions in highlighting the depth and beauty of the Arabic language, particularly in Quranic texts, where eloquence and precision are evident in the choice of words and meanings.

Acknowledgment of Language Preservation

Dr. Al Hammadi conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his constant backing and dedication to the protection and promotion of the Arabic language. He stressed that this commitment highlights Sharjah’s larger initiatives to enhance the significance of the Arabic language in both scientific and cultural fields.

Exploring Quranic Linguistics

The lecture explored the balance between structure and meaning in the Quran, with Dr. Othman highlighting its unique linguistic style and precise word choice. He emphasized how rhetorical elements enhance the Quran’s depth and influence interpretation.

Impact of Repetition and Stories

Dr. Othman further examined the strategic use of repetition in reinforcing Quranic messages and discussed the role of Quranic stories in imparting lessons and wisdom. He emphasised how the linguistic and structural choices in the Quran contribute to its powerful impact on readers and listeners.

Honouring Contributions

At the end of the session, Dr. Al Hammadi expressed his gratitude to the attendees for participating in the Ramadan gathering. In a notable gesture, he commended Dr. Abdul Karim Othman for his significant insights and contributions, honoring him with a commemorative shield to acknowledge his scholarly efforts. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Arabic Language Educational Centre to host initiatives aimed at promoting the rich heritage and rhetorical depth of the Arabic language.
