Sharjah24: Dutch player Tallon Griekspoor achieved a major upset by defeating German Alexander Zverev, the world number two, in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters tournament.
German Alexander Zverev, the world number two and runner-up in the last Australian Open, exited in the second round of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 event.

Zverev lost to Dutch player Tallon Griekspoor with scores of 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), and 6-7 (4-7) after more than three hours of play.

This marks the first time since 2017, specifically since British player Andy Murray, that a top-seeded player has been eliminated in their first match of the tournament.

Zverev was considered a strong contender for the title alongside Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion for the past two years, especially with the absence of Jannik Sinner, who is suspended for three months after an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Throughout the match, Zverev faced pressure from Griekspoor, who had never defeated a top-five player in the world in 18 attempts. The loss in a tense match on Stadium Court reflects the difficult phase Zverev is experiencing, as he has exited the Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Acapulco tournaments without winning a match since losing to Sinner in the Australian Open final.
