Sharjah 24: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, recently inaugurated Al Layyah Canal Project, a 600-metre-long waterway connecting Khalid Lagoon to the Arabian Gulf.

Infrastructure & Accessibility

The project includes two bridges over the canal, two lanes in each direction, and 3.1-metre-wide pedestrian paths, ensuring smooth movement and accessibility.

Environmental & Tourism Benefits

By improving water circulation in Khalid Lagoon, the canal will enhance water quality and support the local ecosystem. Additional features, such as a breakwater, water walkway, and service facilities, will make it a key tourist and recreational attraction.

Sustainable Design

The canal’s design addresses climate challenges, including rising sea levels. A rock layer along its walls protects against wave impact.

Economic & Regional Impact

Part of the government’s infrastructure development efforts, the project aims to enhance quality of life, boost tourism, and stimulate the local economy.
