Sharjah24: During a press conference held on Thursday at Sharjah Mosque, Abdullah Khalifa Al Sabousi, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Islamic Affairs, announced the details of Sharjah’s Ramadan events and programmes for 2025. The department is coordinating over 20 initiatives and programmes in partnership with various specialised institutions.

The department is collaborating on these programmes with the Noble Quran & Sunnah Establishment, Sharjah Charity International, the Holy Quran Academy, Sharjah Quran Radio and TV, and Al Qasimia University.

Opening mosques and providing Quranic programmes

In an exclusive interview with Sharjah 24, Al Sabousi announced that 20 new mosques will be inaugurated at the start of the holy month, spread throughout the suburbs and cities of the emirate.

Furthermore, under the "Distinguished Reciters programme," 170 exceptional Quran reciters will be designated to Sharjah mosques to guide worshippers during Tarawih and Qiyam prayers.

Twelve mosques spread throughout the emirate will host the Quranic Completion (Khitmah).

Encouraging understanding of religious beliefs

Al Sabousi also emphasised that the ten-recitation programme will take place at Al Kawthar Mosque in the Al Bu Daniq area, where each of the ten Quranic recitations will be elucidated in a straightforward manner for public understanding, employing both scholarly and practical methods.

To encourage and make it easier to memorise the Quran, there will be a total of 1,487 sessions in mosques, led by imams. These sessions are being held in cooperation with the Noble Quran & Sunnah Establishment and the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat.

Lessons on the interpretation of the Quran will be held on Saturdays and Sundays following the Dhuhr prayer in all mosques across Sharjah. Additionally, we have selected 23 mosques for daily recitation correction sessions after the Asr prayer.

Following the Asr prayer, the emirate's mosques will host over 45,000 lessons and lectures. In addition, we will establish 93 mosques for non-Arabic-speaking communities to improve their understanding of Islamic values and teachings.

Community support and digital awareness

Al Sabousi confirmed that over 50 awareness lectures will be held for employees of government institutions as part of the religious awareness programmes. A toll-free hotline (8001441) has been established for religious fatwas and enquiries, in addition to another inquiry line (80017) for questions regarding programmes and activities.

Furthermore, a range of religious programmes will be introduced on social media platforms, in conjunction with the production and release of a Ramadan podcast through the department’s digital channels.

Iftar tents and community initiatives

Al Sabousi announced that more than 250 Iftar tents would be established in partnership with Sharjah Charity International and other relevant organisations to ensure that meals are provided to those in need during the holy month.

Various community and volunteer initiatives will be implemented in collaboration with Sharjah Police Headquarters to manage the flow of worshippers in mosques and iftar tents, ensuring a seamless and orderly entry and exit process.

The department will collaborate with the Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Centre to arrange blood donation campaigns in several mosques throughout the emirate following Tarawih prayers, with the goal of fostering a culture of donation and strengthening humanitarian efforts during Ramadan.

Furthermore, collaboration has been initiated with the Sharjah Centre for Voluntary Work to distribute iftar meals and oversee the movements of worshippers during Tarawih and Qiyam prayers, thereby ensuring a secure and pleasant atmosphere for both worshippers and volunteers.

Reflecting the spirit of the holy month

Al Sabousi concluded by emphasising that these programmes and activities embody Sharjah’s dedication to enriching the spiritual ambiance of Ramadan. He highlighted that cooperation among different institutions enhances the overall experience for all community members while also strengthening the religious and humanitarian values represented by the holy month.
