Sharjah Municipality monitors food establishments during Ramadan

Sharjah 24: Sharjah Municipality is set to receive the holy month of Ramadan, and to develop the necessary plans to monitor food establishments and intensify supervision over them, ensuring compliance with health instructions and controls, and issuing the necessary permits and organising the workflow during the holy month.

The municipality allocated a team of 380 inspectors to monitor food sales and trading establishments, and monitor negative behaviours and distortions of the general appearance. The municipality also announced the start of issuing the necessary permits for establishments to practice some activities during Ramadan.

Commitment to health requirements

His Excellency Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, confirmed that the municipality has completed its preparations for the holy month with comprehensive plans by the relevant departments to follow up on the practice of some activities and raise awareness among the public, as it has allocated a team of 103 inspectors to inspect food establishments, follow up on their commitment to health requirements and standards regulating the workflow, and ensure the issuance of the necessary permits.  Al Tunaiji indicated that major inspection campaigns will be implemented, including a campaign to ensure the issuance of permits for displaying food outside stores, a campaign to ensure the issuance of permits for providing services to non-Muslim communities during the day of the holy month, a campaign on bakeries, a campaign on popular kitchens and another on sweet shops.

Monitoring negative behaviours

His Excellency the Director General of Sharjah Municipality explained that the municipality has allocated 277 inspectors to monitor and follow up on negative behaviours and distortions of the general appearance within the framework of its interest in the civilised appearance and providing an ideal environment for residents and visitors, as intensive inspection campaigns and visits will be implemented throughout the city of Sharjah and its facilities to include green spaces that see a turnout from the public to enjoy the beautiful winter atmosphere in the emirate. He noted that the necessary legal and administrative measures will be taken against any violations, especially leaving waste on the ground, in addition to ensuring that commercial establishments wishing to extend working hours beyond midnight are committed to issuing the necessary permit from the Control and Inspection Department.

Parking rules

His Excellency Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji indicated that the calculation of public parking fees during the month of Ramadan will be from 8 am to 12 midnight, and the inspection teams affiliated with the Public Parking Department will ensure that the public is committed to paying the fees and not misusing the parking spaces, and the parking spaces surrounding the mosques will be free for an hour after the call to prayer to facilitate the public.

Providing 24/7 service

The municipality has also set working hours for its service centres to ensure the continuity of providing services to the public. The municipality has explained through its social media accounts the timings of all services it provides in both Arabic and English. The neighbourhood parks receive visitors throughout the week from 4:00 pm to 12:00 midnight to enjoy their distinguished service facilities, while the timings of Al Suyoh Families Park, Al Suyoh Women's Park, Sharjah National Park and Al Rawla Park are operating from 4:00 pm to 1:00 am.

The Director General of the Municipality explained that the 993 call centre operates around the clock and receives comments, calls, reports and inquiries from the public throughout the week and around the clock, and they are dealt with immediately by transferring them to the relevant departments and sections.

The municipality calls on the public to contact the centre for any comments, inquiries or to monitor any negative behaviours.
