Sharjah 24: Under the patronage of Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, the eighth edition of the Fine Arts Festival, In the Shade of the Palm Trees, was inaugurated on Monday, February 17. Organized by the University Art Studio under the Deanship of Student Affairs-Women, the four-day festival offers a diverse array of thrilling activities, including art exhibitions, workshops, and interactive experiences. The event aims to bring together the expertise of prominent artists based in the UAE and the creative talents of female students at the University of Sharjah in an inspiring celebration of art that would foster the students’ artistic development, enhance their self-awareness, and boost their confidence. The festival also features an open drawing competition and an arts bazaar that showcase the students’ artworks. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Amina Al-Marzouqi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and Dr. Salama Al Rahoomi, Dean of Student Affairs.

A Journey of Color is one of the main highlights of the event. This exciting exhibition features a collection of artworks by renowned artists including Fahad Jaber, Magdy El-Kafrawy, Karim Al-Dosari, Kaltham Bil-Salah, and Fatima Al-Hammadi. Another major attraction is Art on the Road, which showcased 70 pieces created by University of Sharjah students, incorporating a variety of techniques such as collage, acrylic painting, and photography.

The festival also hosts several art workshops, including a mural painting session led by artist Magdy El-Kafrawy and a doll-making workshop conducted by Russian artist Milana Rasul. Additionally, Russian artist Lyubov Petikhova held a ceramics workshop, while Prof. Farah Al-Yousef introduced students to the art of concrete crafting. Students seeking to have some hands-on creative experiences can join any of workshops held at the Art Café studio throughout the event.

The Art Bazaar adds to the festival’s vibrancy, offering students the opportunity to display and sell their handmade crafts, and artworks. This initiative not only allows students to showcase their artistic skills but also provides them with a platform to gain exposure and develop their entrepreneurial skills.
