Sharjah 24: As part of its ongoing efforts to advance the educational system and enhance the integration of students with disabilities into society, Sharjah Parents Council, affiliated with Sharjah District Affairs Department (SDAD), held a brainstorming session in cooperation with Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), to exchange views and ideas on ways to develop early intervention programmes in childhood and improve services provided to this group.

Enhancing community partnership and providing inclusive educational environment

The meeting, held, on Friday, at SCHS headquarters, comes within the efforts of the Parents Council to enhance community partnership and provide an inclusive educational environment, based on the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah to support and care for people with disabilities, and ensure that they have equal opportunities in education, growth and development.

A supportive educational environment

During the meeting, the attendees discussed the most prominent challenges facing parents of students with disabilities, and the importance of providing a supportive educational environment that contributes to meeting their needs, in addition to discussing the best global practices that can be benefited from in the field of inclusive education.

Cooperation between educational and community institutions

Participants also stressed the importance of continuous cooperation between educational and community institutions to ensure the provision of quality programmes that help develop children's skills and enable them to participate effectively in society.

Attendees stressed the importance of launching awareness and training initiatives targeting parents, students and teachers, to raise awareness of the issues of people with disabilities and promote the concepts of acceptance and integration within the educational and community environment.

Organising workshops and training programmes was proposed to enabling parents and teachers to use advanced teaching methods that suit the needs of this group, which positively reflects on developing their capabilities and improving their quality of life.
