Sharjah24: The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club made a significant mark at the UAE Fencing Cup, held at the Al Mazhar Sports Hall in Dubai. The competition featured intense rivalry across various age categories, and the club’s athletes came away with 13 medals in total over three days of action, showcasing their growth and competitiveness at top-tier sporting events.
Day 1 – Friday, February 7, 2025 (Under 11 and Under 20 categories)
The club’s athletes kicked off the tournament with a strong performance in the Under 11 and Under 20 age groups. Meitha Al Marzouqi secured the gold medal in the saber event, while Nora Al Ketbi claimed the silver in the same category.
In the Under 20 category, Afra Al Balushi earned the silver in saber, and Habiba Mohamed added a second silver for the team in the foil event.
Day 2 – Saturday, February 8, 2025 (Under 13 and Under 17 categories)
The athletes continued to shine on the second day. Mahra Al Zarouni bagged the bronze medal in the Under 13 saber event, while Hanan Saeed took home the bronze in foil in the same category.
In the Under 17 category, Shamma Al Suwaidi delivered an impressive performance, claiming the silver medal in saber after a tough final.
Day 3 – Sunday, February 9, 2025 (Under 15 and Open categories)
The tournament concluded with more successes in the Under 15 and Open categories. Shamma Al Suwaidi clinched the gold medal in saber, and Mahra Al Zarouni added another bronze for the team in the same event.
In the Open category, Anoud Al Saadi won the gold in épée, while Zaynab Al Hosani took the silver in the same discipline. Habiba Mohamed also secured the silver in foil, and Maryam Al Dgheidi finished second in saber, contributing another silver to the team’s overall medal count.
Hassan Al Zouari, the club’s fencing technical director, commended the athletes, stating, "These results reflect the dedication and rigorous training the players have undergone recently. They showed immense commitment and a fierce competitive spirit. We are excited to build on these results for upcoming competitions. The diverse participation from athletes across nationalities and clubs elevated the competition, offering our players the opportunity to gain fresh experiences and adjust to different playing styles, which will undoubtedly benefit their performance in future tournaments."
