The visit took place alongside HoW’s participation in the 56th Cairo International Book Fair, emphasising its commitment to expanding partnerships with cultural and knowledge-driven organisations in Egypt and beyond. HoW continues to reinforce Sharjah and the UAE’s commitment to pioneering innovative library spaces.
During their tour, the HoW delegation explored various sections and museums, including the Antiquities Museum, the ‘In the Afterlife’ hall showcasing mummies and sarcophagi, and the Culturama Shows, an immersive digital experience of Egypt’s history. They also visited the Children’s and Young People’s Libraries, promoting reading among younger generations.
A highlight of the visit was the Rare Books Library, which houses early Arabic printed works from the 19th century. The delegation also explored Ahmed Pasha Kamal’s Dictionary, a 22-volume hieroglyphic-Arabic-French lexicon, recently honored with the ICCROM-Sharjah Award for preserving cultural heritage.
Discussions between HoW and Bibliotheca Alexandrina centered around collaborative exhibitions, knowledge sharing, and preserving cultural heritage for future generations. The HoW delegation also visited the Grand Egyptian Museum, exploring future cooperation and exhibitions, as well as Al-Ahram newspaper to discuss digitizing archival materials for HoW members.
