Theme and focus
Under the theme "Pursuit of Effective Science Communication," this year’s forum brings together leading experts and researchers in the fields of media and science communication. The event focuses on addressing critical challenges, particularly improving the accessibility and impact of science in society.
The first platform of its kind in the Middle East
AFSMC is the first platform of its kind in the Middle East, and a vital meeting point for researchers, journalists, and science communicators in the region. This edition continues its legacy with a hybrid format, inviting participants to attend both onsite and virtually to explore the tools, strategies, and methodologies that redefine how science reaches and resonates with the public.
Key objectives
The forum’s program is built around two core objectives. The first is empowering innovation in communication by proposing new approaches for presenting scientific topics in interactive, captivating ways, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and virtual reality. The second is developing influential platforms that promote collaboration among researchers, media professionals, and science communication specialists to maximize the impact on the public.
Perspectives from co-founders
Saad Lotfey, Co-founder of AFSMC, emphasised the significance of this milestone: “This forum is more than an event—it’s a movement to ensure that scientific knowledge is not only accessible and engaging but also transformative for our communities. By bringing together experts and innovators, we are setting the stage for a more connected and informed Arab world.”
Bothina Osama, Co-founder of AFSMC and Regional Coordinator of SciDev.Net in the MENA region, noted, “AFSMC has become a key platform for advancing science communication in the region. As we celebrate our fifth edition, we’re more committed than ever to fostering partnerships and equipping professionals with the skills to bridge the gap between science and society. This forum is about empowering change-makers to translate science into real-world solutions.”
