Sharjah 24: His Excellency Ahmed Ibrahim Al Mail, Chairman of the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD), welcomed the elderly participants in the "Made by Their Hands" initiative, a gesture reflecting the department's deep commitment to supporting the elderly community. This initiative aims to integrate the elderly into society and encourage their active participation in creative projects.

Empowering the elderly through practical activities

Maryam Al Qatari, Director of the Elderly Care Home, explained that the "Made by Their Hands" project offers a fresh approach to engaging the elderly beyond typical recreational activities. Members aged 60 and above prepare gift boxes with items such as jalabiyas, perfumes, and kanduras, separated into categories for men and women.

Sales and positive psychological impact

The first sales visits began at the department's headquarters, with the initiative set to extend across various government and private institutions. Al Qatari emphasised the psychological benefits, as the project helps reduce isolation, enhances self-reliance, and boosts morale. All proceeds will support medical needs and equipment for the elderly care home residents.

"Made by Their Hands" highlights the invaluable contributions and capabilities of the elderly, showcasing their empowerment and role in society.
