MOCCAE minister witnesses opening of Al Dhaid Agriculture Exhib.

Sharjah 24: With the approach of the holy month of Ramadan and du to the increasing demand for Mleiha dairy products, the Sharjah Agricultural and Livestock Production Establishment (EKTIFA) launched Mleiha milk today, Thursday, the latest product of Mleiha Dairy Farm at the Al Dhaid Agriculture Exhibition.

Event overview

The four-day exhibition is organised by Expo Centre Sharjah, with support from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in collaboration with the Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock (SDAL). It features participation from several ministries and government agencies, along with more than 40 companies operating in the agricultural and animal wealth sectors, as well as numerous farmers.

Official opening ceremony

The official opening of the exhibition was attended by a distinguished group of officials, including His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment; His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Salman Al Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Food Diversity Sector at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment; His Excellency Dr. Eng. Khalifa Al Musabah Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock (SDAL); and His Excellency Waleed Abdul Rahman Bu Khater, Second Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber’s Board of Directors. Also in attendance were His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadhi, Director General of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah; His Excellency Abdullah Salem Al Kaabi, Director of SDAL; Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General for the Communication and Business Sector at the Sharjah Chamber; Mohammed Musabah Al Tunaiji, Director of Expo Centre Al Dhaid; and Sultan Shattaf, Commercial Director of Expo Centre Sharjah. The opening also saw the participation of several officials from the Eastern Region, along with investors in the agricultural sector.

Sharjah's vision for agriculture and food security

Her Excellency Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak emphasised that the "Al Dhaid Agriculture Exhibition," along with Sharjah's major agricultural and food initiatives, reflects the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. His vision seeks to provide full support to farmers, encouraging them to launch significant agricultural projects and actively contribute to promoting local products. This vision highlights Sharjah’s role as a dynamic and influential player in enhancing the UAE’s sustainable national food security. Dr Al Dahak also noted that the projects in Sharjah during His Highness's leadership are a success story and a national model, showcasing the region’s ability to drive a genuine transformation in the food security system and meet the country’s needs for strategic crops.

Empowering local farmers

Her Excellency stated, "Through the Al Dhaid Agriculture Exhibition and other initiatives, we in the UAE are committed to empowering local farmers and promoting their exceptional products across the country’s markets. We have a clear vision to provide all necessary support to farmers, enabling them to contribute more effectively to achieving the goals of the National Food Security Strategy 2051. Our efforts are focused on increasing local food and agricultural production, with the aim of reducing dependence on imports from abroad."

Her Excellency added, "Through our initiatives and the efforts of various relevant authorities, the upcoming period will see a transformative shift in strengthening the agriculture and food sector. We will prioritise support and training programmes for local farmers, while also facilitating the launch of more agricultural projects that utilise modern climate-smart agricultural technology. This will be especially supported through the National Agricultural Centre, one of the key initiatives of the national programme 'Plant the Emirates.'"

Exhibition highlights

After the official opening ceremony, attendees toured the exhibition halls, exploring the latest technologies, equipment, and innovative solutions presented by exhibitors and companies in the sector. This included advancements in wheat and grain cultivation, as well as cutting-edge technologies in hydroponics and vertical farming. Additionally, visitors learned about the latest irrigation and gardening techniques, along with the finest types of innovative fertilisers.

The exhibition serves as an ideal platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise between participants and farmers, offering valuable opportunities to connect with sector experts and specialists. It stands out for its wide participation from numerous companies in the agricultural industry, covering all areas of agricultural business, including aquaculture, ornamental plant cultivation, gardening, agricultural mechanisation, equipment and supplies, financing, consulting services, training, beekeeping supplies, food processing, and packaging. This comprehensive platform showcases the latest innovations to decision-makers and senior professionals in the sector.

Latest agricultural innovations

The four-day event will feature a comprehensive display of cutting-edge technologies and innovations in the agricultural sector, with a particular emphasis on wheat and grain cultivation in the region. It will highlight the role of hydroponics and vertical farming as innovative solutions for optimising water use and boosting productivity, alongside smart irrigation systems and modern gardening techniques.
