Sharjah24: The 22nd edition of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (SAVW) has introduced the "Himma Award," aimed at recognising volunteers from the People of Determination who develop the highest number of volunteer hours in diverse fields. This initiative reflects the award's vision of supporting and encouraging volunteer-driven efforts, with the goal of recognising and celebrating inspiring contributions to community service.

Honouring the Impact of Volunteers

The "Himma Award" recognises exceptional voluntary contributions made by individuals with disabilities. The award highlights a strong commitment to promoting and backing volunteer initiatives, especially those spearheaded by this group, which underscores their essential contribution to the community and their ability to motivate others through their unwavering dedication.

Commenting on this, Fatima Musa Al Baloushi, Executive Director of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work, highlighted the introduction of the "Himma Award" for People of Determination, underscoring the award's commitment to empowering this group as true partners in societal development. Their presence highlights the significance of their role in fostering positive change and promoting community development.

The award seeks to emphasise the volunteer contributions of People of Determination, showcasing their remarkable skills and active involvement in diverse areas of volunteering.

Al Baloushi added that this initiative reaffirms the Award's vision of empowering People of Determination by providing them with opportunities for active participation in various volunteer activities.  This approach not only underscores their role but also enhances their integration into society.

She highlighted that organisations are becoming more conscious and committed to providing volunteer opportunities that cater to the skills of People of Determination. The opportunities available are tailored to align with the specific tasks and the volunteering environment, providing a valuable experience that develops skills and supports the achievement of personal goals.

Al Baloushi emphasised that the evaluation criteria for entries in this category focus on several key aspects, including the number of volunteer hours completed, the quality and impact of the contributions, and the level of creativity demonstrated in carrying out volunteer initiatives. She noted that this approach encourages impactful and high-quality volunteer efforts that contribute to community development and reflect the spirit of excellence celebrated by the award.

Al Baloushi explained that the participation criteria and required documents stipulate that volunteer activities must be distributed throughout the year and completed within the year of the award. Additionally, participants must complete a minimum of 100 volunteer hours annually to qualify.

She invited those interested in applying to submit their entries by January 24, 2025, emphasising that the award is not merely a recognition of efforts but also a message of appreciation and respect for everyone contributing to building a cohesive and inclusive community that embraces all its members.
