Sharjah24: On the evening of Monday, December 23, 2024, the Ras Al Khaimah Theatre Troupe took the stage at the 18th edition of the Emirates Children’s Theatre Festival to present "The Tree of Wonders." Written by Othman Al Shatti and directed by Adnan Al Balushi, this enchanting play featured a talented cast of Emirati theatre artists, including Shaaban Sabit, Mohammed Ishaq, Ismail Salem, Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Judy Al Nabhan, Ghazlan Mohammed, Qasayed Mohammed, Abdullah Al Mansouri, Dana Salama, Rayouf Al Zaabi, Youssef Azzam, among others.

The story unfolds around a magnificent, vibrant tree that serves as a shelter for all, creating an atmosphere filled with joy, comfort, and reassurance. The tree is adorned in a spectrum of colors, but the presence of a black character and a clown in tattered attire introduces chaos. They feel overlooked and believe that others hold more importance and favor with the tree. Feeling alienated, they decide to leave, and as the black character departs, the tree's colorful facade becomes incomplete.

With the tree weakened, the thorn bush begins to weave its sinister plans, teaming up with its wicked companions to seize control. However, in that moment of turmoil, the black character and the clown realize just how vital their presence is. They come to understand that they were integral to the unity and safety the tree once provided. This newfound awareness prompts them to return, and together, they rally everyone to confront the thorn bush. In a united stand, they overcome the darkness, driving out the evil and restoring beauty, love, and harmony to their beloved tree.

The show conveyed several key messages aimed at children, particularly highlighting the significance of the individual within a group. It underscored that societies can only rise, thrive, and enjoy security and peace through the solidarity and cooperation of their young members. Additionally, the show stressed the importance of rejecting violence and embracing tolerance, advocating for the establishment of love and harmony among people. It reassured that no matter how formidable evil may seem, it will ultimately fade away.

The director skillfully crafted visual panels that captivated the children and encouraged them to engage actively with the performance. The actors also delivered standout performances, brilliantly embodying their characters and adapting their portrayals to fit the specific demands of the roles. This dynamic approach heightened the energy of the show. The contributions from Zahra Al Hammadi on costumes, Ibrahim Al Hammadi on lighting, Fares Al Jeddawi on set design, and Ali Bishwa on makeup were crucial to the success of “The Tree of Wonders.” Their efforts created a mesmerizing atmosphere that enchanted the audience and uplifted their spirits.
