Sharjah24: Sharjah Charity International (SCI) reported that the housing assistance provided to eligible recipients during the first nine months of this year (2024) exceeded AED 16.2 million , benefiting 1,794 underprivileged families whose aid requests were approved. This assistance included help for those struggling to pay overdue rent and utility bills, as well as the renovation and maintenance of dilapidated homes for needy families.
Mohammed Rashid bin Biyat, Vice Chairman of SCI's Board of Directors, indicate that the housing assistance is part of targeted aid programs aimed at providing a decent life for underprivileged families, ensuring their stability, family reunification, and strengthening community ties.
He explained that the housing assistance given by SCI during the first nine months of this year reached four categories of the needy: those unable to pay rent, totaling 983 families with outstanding legal judgments amounting to 10 million dirhams. Additionally, SCI funded the maintenance and renovation of homes for 45 families living in decrepit housing at a cost of AED 1 million . Furthermore, 1.1 million dirhams were spent on assisting 288 beneficiaries with overdue utility bills, while 4.1 million dirhams were allocated to furnish the homes of 481 families registered with SCI with furniture and household appliances.
Bin Biyat emphasised that SCI aims to further enhance the mechanisms for providing maintenance and renovation assistance for underprivileged families by launching the "Renovation" initiative. This independent initiative seeks to expand the base of citizen beneficiaries of housing maintenance and renovation programs, ensuring a decent living for residents. He noted that SCI continues its charitable work aimed at bringing joy to the needy and reflects the solidarity and social welfare values of the UAE community, characterised by generosity and a love for good deeds. SCI remains focused on assisting the homeless and those struggling to pay rent, reinforcing its commitment to humanitarian efforts in support of underprivileged families.
He added that the SCI accepts requests from clients throughout the week via its website. If all required documents are submitted, field study procedures will begin, and a report will be submitted to the relevant committee to decide on the eligibility for assistance. He highlighted that providing a suitable environment and climate can enhance an individual's stability, which is a priority in the SCI's efforts to launch programs that empower beneficiaries to rely on themselves.
