Sharjah 24: In a strategic move reflecting Sharjah’s urban renaissance, Al Dhaid Municipality, in collaboration with Sharjah Municipality, has announced the introduction of paid public parking across Al Dhaid City from 1 January 2025. This initiative aims to curb parking misuse, align with the Emirate's burgeoning tourism and investment influx, and ensure a streamlined, efficient parking experience for residents, visitors, business owners, and frequenters of the city.
H.E. Hamad Rashid Al Tunaiji, Director of Al Dhaid Municipality, emphasised the importance of this step in supporting the city’s development journey. “Implementing parking fees reinforces Al Dhaid’s position as a modern urban hub while addressing challenges such as misuse and negative behaviours impacting residents, businesses, and the city’s overall aesthetic appeal,” he stated.

Collaboration for Smooth Implementation
A joint task force comprising members from Sharjah and Al Dhaid municipalities has been established to oversee the project. This team has laid out comprehensive plans, including feasibility studies of key locations, securing necessary permits, identifying requirements, and designing a robust communication campaign to inform the public.

Public parking in Al Dhaid will operate under a paid system from 8 AM to 10 PM, with Fridays remaining free except for designated zones marked by blue guidance boards. These zones will also feature signage detailing payment timings.

Boosting Infrastructure and Urban Charm
H.E. Al Tunaiji highlighted the partnership with Sharjah Municipality, lauding their provision of specialised personnel, tools, and ongoing inspections to ensure seamless operations. “This collaboration signifies a united effort to maintain Al Dhaid’s growth momentum while safeguarding its cultural and economic vibrancy,” he added.

H.E. Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director-General of Sharjah Municipality, echoed this sentiment, citing the Emirate’s visionary leadership as instrumental in Al Dhaid’s rapid transformation. "Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Al Dhaid has become a focal point of economic, tourism, and investment activity,” he remarked.

Comprehensive Coverage
As part of the initiative, 1,900 parking spaces have been designated as paid zones following meticulous surveying. A suite of 19 payment kiosks, 7 large signage boards, and 161 smaller directional signs has been installed. To accommodate diverse user preferences, payment options include coin-operated machines, SMS services, the Sharjah Digital app, the Mawaqif app, and prepaid cards.

To uphold the system’s integrity, continuous inspections will be carried out using advanced digital monitoring vehicles, ensuring compliance and mitigating misuse.

The introduction of paid parking in Al Dhaid marks a pivotal step towards enhancing urban living standards, supporting local businesses, and maintaining the city’s position as a model of sustainable development within Sharjah’s thriving Emirate.
