Sharjah24: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) completed the installation of 171,953 smart water metres across various areas in the city of Sharjah by the end of October 2024.This initiative is part of the authority's digital transformation strategy aimed at enhancing services for customers. The smart metres provide more accurate readings compared to traditional metres and allow for precise monitoring of water consumption across regions. Additionally, these metres can send alerts to notify customers about sudden spikes in water usage or potential leaks, promoting resource conservation and sustainability.
Eng. Faisal Al Serkal, Director of the Water Department at SEWA, emphasised that the authority's efforts are aligned with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. These efforts aim to provide advanced infrastructure and support digital transformation through the use of smart systems. The installation of smart water metres is one of the initiatives designed to boost operational efficiency and reduce water loss.
The areas where mechanical metres have been replaced with smart metres include Al Rahmaniya, with areas like Shagrafa 1 to 4, Kashisha 1 to 6, and several other zones. Current efforts are focused on replacing mechanical metres in Industrial Areas 2, 3, and 5, as well as Al Qarayen and Al Suyoh, with a planned schedule to upgrade all areas and districts in the emirate.
