Sharjah 24: His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC), affirmed that World Children’s Day represents an important milestone to renew commitment to the rights of the Arab children and to enhance their position in society, in line with the vision of the League of Arab States.
Al Barout pointed out that APC, under the umbrella of the League of Arab States, continues its efforts to provide an interactive platform that engages children in dialogue and discussion, which enhances their values of effective participation and responsible citizenship.

Al Barout pointed out that Arab countries are making great efforts to enhance the welfare and protection of children, as recent years have seen remarkable development in the fields of education, health, and social protection, and praised the prominent role played by Arab governments in implementing national initiatives aimed at empowering children and achieving their aspirations.

In the context of this international day, Al Barout stated that APC, since its establishment in April 2019, has been working to implement programmes and initiatives that raise children's awareness of their rights and open up new horizons for creativity and active participation. He pointed out that the parliament's sessions, which are held twice a year in the United Arab Emirates in the Emirate of Sharjah, contribute to promoting human values and civilised dialogue among Arab children, which supports their aspirations and enhances their future role. Therefore, the slogan of this year's occasion, "Listen to the Future", is an extension of the vision adopted by APC to enable children to express their aspirations and present innovative visions for their future. The slogan coincides with the efforts made by the parliament through its general sessions, various programmes, and strategic plans, in addition to the work of its committees that focus on promoting dialogue, listening to children's voices, and their active participation in formulating decisions that affect their future.

Ayman Othman Al Barout also stressed the pioneering model presented by the United Arab Emirates in this field, noting that it leads Arab countries in developing policies that support children, such as the "Wadeema" Law, which is a pivotal step to ensure children's rights and protection. He added that the UAE is constantly working to enhance education and healthcare opportunities for children, making it an example to be emulated in the region.

Al Barout touched on the exceptional efforts of the Emirate of Sharjah, stressing that Sharjah has become a global model for child care thanks to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the follow-up of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

Al Barout pointed out that Sharjah's obtaining the title of "Child and Youth Friendly City" reflects its commitment to raising the level of services provided to children and enhancing their rights.
Al Barout concluded his statement by stressing the importance of cooperation between governments, institutions and societies to achieve a better future for children, expressing his thanks and appreciation to the League of Arab States and all Arab roles for their pioneering efforts in supporting childhood, calling for continuing joint work to create a future worthy of children's dreams and aspirations.
