Sharjah24: Al Qasimia University organized an intellectual seminar titled “The System of Tolerance and Its Impact on the Individual and Society in the United Arab Emirates” as part of its celebrations for the International Day of Tolerance.
The seminar took place at the university's premises, attended by Prof. Dr. Awad Al Khalaf, Chancellor of Al Qasimia University (AQU), and featured distinguished participation from several prominent academic figures at the university, who discussed the importance of tolerance and coexistence in Emirati society.
Speakers included His Excellency Dr. Abdelhalim Mansour, Dean of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, and His Excellency Dr. Abdul Karim Othman, Dean of the College of the Holy Quran, with Dr. Mohammed Sahsah, Director of the Language Center, moderating the discussion.
The seminar addressed the concept of tolerance and its profound impact on enhancing social stability, highlighting the significance of tolerance values in the United Arab Emirates, which serves as a global model for peaceful coexistence among diverse cultures and religions.
Examples from the noble prophetic tradition that promote values of tolerance and compassion among people were also reviewed. The seminar emphasized the role of Islam in spreading a culture of tolerance, noting the moderate nature of Islam that calls for human brotherhood and community solidarity. It underscored the importance of activating these values in Emirati society and the approach of the UAE leadership and people in establishing the foundations of human harmony among diverse peoples and cultures.
At the conclusion of the event, winners of the "Tolerance: An Emirati Model" essay competition, organized by the university, were honored by His Excellency Dr. Sulaiman Al-Sarayra, Dean of Student Affairs, along with the judging committee, in recognition of their efforts to support and promote a culture of tolerance.
In his remarks, His Excellency Dr. Awad Al-Khalaf stressed that celebrating the International Day of Tolerance comes at a time when the UAE is making significant strides in enhancing a culture of coexistence and tolerance among various cultures. He noted that tolerance is the cornerstone of building a stable and prosperous society. Qasimia University, therefore, instills these values in its students and trains them to live peacefully with others in a moderate environment, which forms the foundation upon which the university was established, following the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and founder of Al Qasimia University.
Dr. Al-Khalaf highlighted that the UAE represents a leading model in the world for promoting these noble values, and this event is part of a series of activities organized by Qasimia University to enhance its academic and social role in spreading a culture of tolerance and brotherhood among peoples, including students from over 127 nationalities from around the world.
