Sharjah24: Hind Al Huwaidi, Chief Development Officer at BEEAH , has revealed the winners of the "Big Battery Challenge" an initiative designed to encourage students to engage in safe battery disposal practices. Over 10,000 kilogrammes of used batteries were successfully diverted from landfills through the challenge.
Al Huwaidi highlighted that the awards were given today for the Big Battery Challenge, a program launched in collaboration with Duracell, a prominent battery manufacturer. This partnership commenced in 2018, first rolling out in educational institutions throughout Sharjah and Dubai, and then broadening its reach in 2021 to encompass schools across the entire country.
Commenting on this, she highlighted to “Sharjah24” that this initiative resulted in the safe recycling of over 10,000 kilogrammes of used batteries, with participation from more than 633 schools throughout the UAE over a span of five years. She also added, “Today, we celebrated the winners of the fifth edition and recognised the schools that made significant strides in battery recycling efforts.”
Al Huwaidi emphasised that initiatives such as the "Big Battery Challenge" play a crucial role in promoting sustainability concepts among students and teachers in UAE schools, in line with BEEAH's mission to enhance waste diversion from landfills.
