Sharjah 24: Her Excellency Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah, stated that the authority launched the "Arabian Leopard Conservation Strategy" conference, which highlights international, regional and local efforts made to preserve the Arabian leopard, from October 21 to 23 at the Sharjah Safari headquarters.
Al Suwaidi noted that Sharjah is home to the largest number of Arabian leopards born in captivity, amounting to 64.
Speaking exclusively to “Sharjah 24,” Al Suwaidi explained that the conference is an important event within EPAA roles and initiatives in the field of protecting and breeding wild animals, as the authority has put forward the strategy and plans will be developed accordingly to preserve the Arabian leopard, whether in captivity or breeding centres in addition to wild areas.
Al Suwaidi stressed that the Emirate of Sharjah has made significant progress in protecting and breeding the Arabian leopard during the launch of the strategy by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in 2014 and His Highness’s constant directives on the importance of protecting wildlife and biodiversity in the Emirate of Sharjah.
Al Suwaidi expressed her pride and honour in the presence of the largest group of Arabian leopards born in captivity in the Emirate of Sharjah, numbering 64 leopards.
