Sharjah24: Prof. Nouar Tabet, Dean of the College of Science at the University of Sharjah has announced that the Department of Applied Life Sciences will host the Sharjah International Conference in Biotechnology (SICBiotech) for a duration of three days.
The upcoming event will focus on the latest breakthroughs in biotechnology, exploring its applications across different industries and addressing intricate global issues related to genetics, agriculture, bioinformatics, and environmental sustainability.

The conference, in its first edition, brings together experts from across the globe, featuring participants from the United States, Europe, and the Arab world, to explore the notable advancements in biological sciences driven by computational innovations.

Prof. Nouar Tabet emphasised that the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for this year has been awarded to scientists who utilised computer technology to create extensive datasets in the field of protein science. 

He added that David Baker, an American from the University of Washington, has been awarded the prize for his groundbreaking research on "protein design using computational technologies." The other half of the prize has been jointly awarded to British researchers Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper from Google DeepMind for their significant contributions in deciphering the remarkable structures of proteins using AI technologies.

In his statements to “Sharjah24”, Prof. Nouar Tabet highlighted the University of Sharjah's dedication to advancing scientific research. He affirmed that the College of Sciences aims to host this conference in future editions, highlighting significant transformations across multiple fields, particularly within life sciences.
