Sharjah24: The regional office of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in Sharjah launched the "Youth Climate Leaders Camp" this morning. The camp will run until 23 October 2024 at the Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park.
This initiative forms a key component of ISESCO’s strategy to organise the Arab edition of the camp, which features a curated group of speakers and participants from diverse nations in the Islamic world in partnership with multiple organizations in the UAE.

The camp seeks to involve fifty young men and women between the ages of 18 and 30, featuring four sessions: the Arab, Asian, and African sessions, concluding with a final session at the COP29 conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.

This initiative presents an essential platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge, promoting collaboration among young individuals from various Islamic countries, with the goal of nurturing a generation that is aware and influential in matters of climate and sustainability.

The Arabic session emphasises equipping young people with essential knowledge and skills to address climate change and create sustainable solutions. During a span of three days, participants will engage in the development of innovative environmental projects through a series of intensive workshops, progressing from brainstorming to practical implementation upon their return to their respective countries.

The programme features a welcoming address by His Excellency Salem Omar Salem, Director of the ISESCO Regional Office in Sharjah, who stresses the camp's importance in empowering youth to tackle climate challenges. The keynote sessions featured insightful lectures on the connection between climate and health presented by Dr Moataz El-Sarghany from Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University, as well as a discussion on the significance of renewable energy led by Professor Abdelghani Al-Alulabi from the University of Sharjah.

Salem Omar Salem, Director of the ISESCO Regional Office in Sharjah, emphasised that the camp acts as a valuable resource for participants, inspiring them to engage in creative thinking regarding environmental challenges.

He highlighted the significance of teamwork and collaboration in attaining sustainable development, as well as the continuous dedication to enhancing relationships among youth from diverse cultures and backgrounds, aligning with ISESCO's overarching mission.

He conveyed excitement for the ideas and projects that will arise from this camp, emphasizing that the activities of the first day and the following day are in harmony with their ongoing efforts to promote awareness of environmental issues. The camp also seeks to empower young individuals to engage actively in tackling climate challenges by equipping them with the essential knowledge and skills needed to create innovative and sustainable solutions.
