Sharjah 24: Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled, in partnership with Khorfakkan Municipality, held a significant celebration on October 15 to mark White Cane Safety Day.
His Excellency Abdullah Saleh, Chairman of the club's board, emphasised the commitment to integrating the visually impaired into society and enhancing their skills, reflecting the support of the wise leadership.

The event, attended by officials including Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Murr Al Naqbi, highlighted the importance of providing services and opportunities for the blind to ensure their equal rights and integration into the community.

Engineer Abdulrahman Al Naqbi, Director of Khorfakkan Municipality, reiterated the municipality’s dedication to creating a supportive environment for individuals with visual disabilities. 

Attendee Saeed Al Kaabi explained the significance of the white cane, describing it as a vital tool for independent mobility, with various types designed to assist the visually impaired.

The types and functions of the white cane vary to include 6 types
Symbol Cane: Used by visually impaired individuals to indicate their condition.
Guide Cane: Helps the blind detect terrain types and obstacles.
Long Cane: The most common for independent movement, it helps identify obstacles.
Ordinary Walking Cane: Used by both blind and sighted individuals without special specifications.
Hubble Cane: Curved for use in rough terrain, it provides stability.
Electronic Cane: Equipped with ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles up to five meters away.
These canes play a crucial role in enhancing mobility and independence for those with visual impairments.
