Sharjah 24: During GITEX 2024 at the Sharjah Government Pavilion, Dr. Saeed Abdullah bin Yarouf, Director of the Archaeology Department at the Sharjah Archaeology Authority (SAA), announced the launch of the "Archaeological Geographic Information System." The initiative aims to protect archaeological sites in Sharjah from damage caused by infrastructure projects, ensuring coordination with relevant authorities to facilitate services without impacting these sites.
In an exclusive interview with Sharjah 24, Dr. bin Yarouf emphasised that the system employs advanced technologies, including satellite and 3D imaging, to document and safeguard archaeological sites. It provides precise information and a comprehensive record of both the sites and their artifacts.

He further explained that modern imaging techniques, such as laser scanners and drones, create high-resolution 3D visuals, marking a significant advancement in the preservation of archaeological heritage. This system allows for ongoing development projects while ensuring the protection of historical sites.
