Sharjah24: The Anti-Narcotics Department of the Sharjah Police successfully dismantled a criminal gang involving six Asian suspects caught in the act, following the seizure of a package arriving from a foreign country via a shipping company containing 4 kg of paper infused with the drug "spice," intended for distribution within the country.
Colonel Majid Sultan Al-Assam, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department of Sharjah Police, explained that confirmed information indicated an individual's involvement in drug trafficking activities. Consequently, a specialized team was formed to monitor the suspect, identify him, and investigate his connections with local elements or external drug trafficking networks. Following careful surveillance, the investigation revealed that he was collaborating with five others of various Asian nationalities who were also involved in drug distribution within the country and connected to external networks.

Based on this data, a well-planned sting operation was executed, resulting in the arrest of all six suspects. After gathering evidence and searching their residences following all legal procedures, varying quantities of cannabis prepared for use and distribution, as well as A4-sized sheets saturated with "spice," were found carefully hidden in one of the suspects' rooms in an attempt to conceal them from the police. The suspects employed intricate camouflage methods to evade suspicion; however, the expertise and thorough examination by the Anti-Narcotics team led to the discovery of these drugs and thwarted their distribution attempt.

The Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department added that through ongoing investigations and information gathering, a postal package directed to one of the suspects was discovered, arriving from a foreign country via a shipping company. Upon opening the package, it was found to contain sealed envelopes with notebooks of A4 paper intended for drawing or writing. After examination by the forensic evidence department and laboratories of Sharjah Police, it was confirmed that the papers were infused with "spice." Consequently, all seized items and suspects were referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action.

Colonel Majid Al-Assam noted that the criminal methodology was shared with the country's border crossings to enhance efforts in combating drugs and countering the evolving tactics used by drug traffickers and dealers in smuggling operations. He emphasized that drug dealers and traffickers exert considerable effort to ensnare youth, targeting them and drawing them into the clutches of addiction, especially through synthetic drugs like "spice," which is considered one of the most dangerous and impactful substances compared to other drugs like opium and heroin.

He explained that these criminals resort to facilitating drug access for youth through various means, including promoting drugs on social media platforms or smuggling them through deceptive methods. He pointed out that the police forces in the country, thanks to their specialized human resources and advanced technologies, have the capability to thwart all criminal schemes aimed at threatening community security and flooding it with toxins while targeting its youth.

The Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department of Sharjah Police urged community members to enhance ongoing cooperation with security authorities and contribute to the apprehension of criminals seeking to target the nation's youth and negatively affect the integrity of families through the promotion of these poisons. He also emphasized the importance of collaborating to protect the community from these scourges by reporting dealers and promoters via the number 8004654 or through the email [email protected].
